Everyone is always so busy these days. Lots to do. Lots to balance. Never enough time to get everything accomplished, it seems. If you are hosting friends or family for Christmas, and are just realizing at the last minute that your home doesn’t quite look as festive as you’d like it to be, here are a few last minute, inexpensive ‘Do It Yourself’ home decorating tips.

First off, don’t panic! I’ll assume you did manage to at least get your Christmas tree up, but even if you didn’t, if you have a box of Christmas decorations from prior years, let’s start with that!

This photo at left shows how easy it can be to dress up parts of your home to look festive in an instant. Simply dig through your box of old Christmas ornaments, and hang glass balls like these red and green ones to add a Christmas touch. This adds holiday color by using items you already had in storage, and doesn’t take long to decorate.

Once you start, it isn’t difficult to find other places around the house to add a bit of Christmas color, using items you already have! Let’s take a look at some other ideas for DIY Christmas decorating at home at the last minute:

Below left is a clock that has some places to hang ornaments! Or how about door handles? Those are also really great places to dress up an otherwise everyday part of your home inexpensively, at the last minute. If you don’t have many unused ornaments you could also use some nice red ribbon and tie small bows around the house as well. Be careful not to overdo it, just add a few touches of holiday decor here and there, and your guests will think you had decorated your home for Christmas weeks ago. With a little bit of imagination and creativity, you can inexpensively add some festive holiday cheer quickly and easily.
